Tourist attractions in Costa Rica’s Central Valley – ZooAve

The Western Central Valley of Costa Rica has many, many amazing things to do, all in a climate that is ideal for exploring!

Many travellers use Hotel La Rosa as their “Home Base” while exploring Costa Rica.  La Rosa is ideally suited to this due to our convenient location in the middle of the country, close to major roads and the Costa Rica airport, yet far enough away to avoid all the noise and traffic of the major cities.

ZOOAVE

Established by a local Canadian family and supported by many local and foreign donations, this is probably the premier Zoo in Costa Rica.  It specializes in Rehabilitation of injured birds (Aves) and breeding/release programs.  Much of the cost of the entry ticket is used to support rehabilitation, education, breeding and release programs.  This zoo is a favourite of Hotel La Rosa guests in part because of the great support shown by the facility towards the human treatment and support of local wildlife.

There is now a great buffet style restaurant located directly behind the zoo in the old owner’s house.  Surrounded by lush vegetation, peacocks, and a myriad assortment of other wandering birds, animals and critters, this restaurant is rapidly becoming popular both with tourists and locals alike.  Even the old private swimming pool has been converted to a turtle pond with lily pads and iguanas for company!
