Only Regret is we didn’t stay longer
If you are looking for the Ritz just move on because this is local flavor that you can’t experience at a chain. This place may go down as one of my favorite vacation memories ever. Our group was traveling to Caldera and wanted a place to spend one night on arrival in San Jose. We arrived in the afternoon, check in was easy as the receptionist spoke English and none of us were fluent in Spanish. We helped ourselves to beers and water from the cooler in the dining room (not complimentary but on honor system) and sat by the pool as the sun went down. Edwin who soon became our friend brought us drinks while we relaxed. We made a dinner reservation as this is a really small place with less than 20 rooms and they want to be able to accommodate everyone efficiently. Our party of 10 dined that evening and our new friend Edwin proved to be a saint dealing with our rowdy group for a few hours. We ate fresh local food prepared in the small kitchen accompanied by several bottles of wine. Rooms have outside entrances located in quaint little “cabins” clustered around the pool. They are simply appointed and super clean. Soap is provided but you should know to bring your own shampoo. They loaned us a blow dryer as we hadn’t packed one. Even though the property was small they assured us there was a concierge on staff throughout the night. One couple in our party booked massages and the rest of us checked out early for a day of touring. I cannot say enough about how friendly and accommodating the staff was at this place. All 10 in our group said our only regret in booking was that we couldn’t stay longer.
