Charity Climb for Street Children in Tanzania
Recently, the Owner of Hotel La Rosa de America was able to fulfill a 15 year dream – to conduct a donation climb of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. The climb was amazing even though the weather on the summit day was recorded as the worst in a generation. Still, climbing the Umbwe Route, the steepest path to the summit was an experience of a lifetime! After completing this climb we went to review and if found appropriate, donate to the Amani Children’s Foundation in Moshi Tanzania. This organization has been growing for about the last 17 years and now are making a significant impact on the local community with their good work.
Hotel La Rosa de America is proud to support this worth while non profit children’s aid foundation. We were universally impressed by the staff dedication, the children and the overall philosophy of Amani – which means “Friend” in Swahili. For more info on Amani, click HERE
So many of the young children in Tanzania have little hope for a strong future. Some have virtually no hope. It is these “lost| children that are the target of Amani. Only accepting street children, examined by licensed international social workers donating their time, Amani guarantees that their desire to reach the truly needy is met.
Seeing new children rescued from the street and then in just a year or two seeing the changes in them is heart warming.
In fact the initial classroom for new arrivals has a large painting on the wall showing the stages of adaptation of the children, from their old world of distrust, criminal behaviour, begging and mandatory self-sufficiency to one of formal learning, understanding boundaries, ethical behaviour, and safety. In the final depictions in the painting, the children grow up and because of their personal growth at Amani, they now have career options and hope for a better life.
At La Rosa, we have been fortunate during the past decade. We have created jobs for 14 families, and grown our business in both size and reputation. We are now listed in Tripadvisor as #1 for best value hotel in the Alajuela, Costa Rica airport area.
We welcome the chance afforded us by our guest’s patronage of our hotel to help others in need. We sincerely hope that we will be able, in years to come to continue to support Amani and other similar organizations of quality and humanitarian purpose.
